About the Course
Besides taking compulsory and elective courses, students must be approved in a qualifying examination in their concentration areas so they can be considered, in fact, candidates for a Doctor’s degree.
The requirements for the degree are complemented by a research thesis, which is an original work in the field of interest of the candidate. The program lasts four years and requires students’ full-time dedication.
The fulfillment of the formalities imposed by the University will allow the Doctor of Science degree in Business Administration, granted by COPPEAD / UFRJ.
Alternatively, doctoral candidates can substitute the traditional phases of the PhD (qualification examination, research project and thesis) by submitting three articles throughout the PhD program on the current status of their research for relevant national or international journals. This decision must be approved by the student’s supervisor and meet some specific rules and deadlines of the program to guarantee the student the degree award.
In the first year of the program, students must attend the core courses and may select some elective courses aligned with their supervisor, fulfilling a minimum workload of 480 hours.
Those who have not obtained a Master’s degree, or any previous training in Administration or in the Area of Concentration for which they were accepted, could be recommended to take courses of the Master Program in order to complement the mandatory sequence for all students of the Doctorate (presented in Table I – Program course).
The COPPEAD Graduate School of Business is open to the development of new partnerships with private and / or public higher education institutions to structure inter-institutional doctoral programs in DINTER CAPES format.
According to its philosophy of teaching and research, COPPEAD understands how extremely relevant for the training process of the students from the partner institution that the first year of courses is realized in the facilities of Rio de Janeiro.
The aim of DINTER is to support the training of teachers from institutions far from the major teaching and research centers and to foster academic production in the institutions participating in the program. Among the various benefits are the possibility to study complementary courses in other renowned institutions in Rio de Janeiro - either in other units of the UFRJ or other partner schools - as well as the beneficial and productive interaction for research training with the professors from Coppead as well as other students of the regular doctorate class. The immersion provided by taking the first year of credits at COPPEAD's facilities in Rio de Janeiro would be equivalent to the year-long experience abroad provided by the sandwich doctorate. For more information on DINTER, visit the Capes website (http://www.capes.gov.br/bolsas/bolsas-no-pais/dinter) or contact us: email@example.com
