Biography

Murilo Carrazedo Marques da Costa Filho is an associate professor at the COPPEAD Institute of Business Administration at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). He holds a PhD (2018) and a Master’s (2014) in Business Administration from PUC-Rio, with a postdoctoral degree (2023) at the School of Arts, Sciences, and Humanities at the University of São Paulo (EACH-USP). He also holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School (2004), awarded through the Chevening program, and a Bachelor’s in Chemical Engineering from UFRJ (1991). Prior to joining COPPEAD, he served as an associate professor at the Department of Entrepreneurship and Management at Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF).

His research interests include (but are not limited to): the effects of goal setting on individual performance (goal-setting theory), the impact of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM) on attitudes and purchase intentions, cognitive biases in judgment and decision-making in consumer contexts, brand loyalty and the behavior of low-income consumers. In recent years, he has focused mainly on the development of quantitative research with experimental methods, although he remains open to other methods—including qualitative approaches—when relevant to research objectives.

He has published in high-impact national and international journals, such as Journal of Business Research, Judgment and Decision Making, Personality and Individual Differences, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Consumer Marketing, International Journal of Consumer Studies, and Qualitative Market Research. He is also a reviewer for high-impact national and international journals, including Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, International Journal of Consumer Studies, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Insights, and BAR – Brazilian Administration Review.

Murilo has a solid executive experience, having worked for two decades in leadership positions in marketing and sales at companies such as Coca Cola and Philip Morris. At COPPEAD, he teaches courses in the stricto sensu programs focusing on Marketing Management, Consumer Behavior, and Pricing.
